“Let’s eat, Grandma!”

Punctuation saves lives.

  • Middle School English includes components of grammar, analyzing various genres of literature, writing essays, reports and research papers, and reading for SAT/ACT prep.

    Through Scripture, literature and writing opportunities, students will:

    • Identify aspects of grammar including parts of speech, punctuation, subject-verb agreement, clauses, and sentence structure

    • Evaluate different genres of literature for character development, setting, plot, main idea and supporting details, cause and effect, predicting outcomes and making generalizations

    • Identify various figurative language techniques within literature and apply to their writing

    • Write well-developed paragraphs, literary critiques, literary analysis, short stories, and a research paper

    • Evaluate texts using Scripture

    Required Textbooks and Supplies:

    Bible – No electronic Bibles or The Message translation

    Short stories and grammar exercises provided in class and online. 

    Spiral and loose-leaf paper

    Highlighters

    Pen and pencil

  • The Literature through Film course explores fundamental literature concepts using a selection of classic films. Students will analyze storytelling techniques, character development, themes, and narrative structures as presented in film, drawing parallels to traditional literature. This course is appropriate for students proficient in reading and analyzing works of literature and writing well-developed essays. A mandatory essay is required for enrollment.
